In February 2018, the Independent Book Publishers Association (IBPA) named Karen a candidate to serve on its national board of directors for fiscal years 2019 and 2020. Her appointment was confirmed in April and her service began July 1, 2018.
Karen has been a member of IBPA (formerly Publishers Marketing Association) since founding Minnesota-based Elva Resa Publishing in 1997. Over the past two decades, she’s grown Elva Resa into the leading US publisher of books for and about military families. She credits a large portion of her success to her team of authors and illustrators, and the spirit of open mentoring she’s found in IBPA and its Minnesota affiliates, Midwest Independent Publishing Association (MIPA) and Minnesota Book Publishers’ Roundtable (MBPR).
